Jets’ first-round pick Will McDonald healthy scratch vs. Cowboys

ARLINGTON, Texas – Jets defensive end Will McDonald, the team’s 2023 first-round pick, is inactive for the team’s game against the Cowboys on Sunday.

McDonald played just 13 snaps in the Week 1 win over the Bills.

The Jets have a crowded defensive line room and McDonald was the odd man out this week.

Nine defensive linemen are active for Sunday’s game.

Against the Bills, the Jets held out Carl Lawson to give him extra time to recover from a back injury he suffered in training camp and not have him play two games in a short week with last week’s game coming on Monday night.

The Jets drafted McDonald with the No. 15 overall pick out of Iowa State.

It was a surprising pick because the Jets already had a loaded defensive line room.

It marked the second straight year they used a first-round pick on an edge rusher.

They drafted Jermaine Johnson in 2022.
