Jessica Simpson says that she was 'happy' and 'laughed a lot' while spending her summer in Nashville to work on new music

Jessica Simpson’s summer getaway helped her reset and make some decisions about her future. 

The 43-year-old, who says she would like the public to stop scrutinizing her weight, revealed she and her family enjoyed their vacation in Nashville, Tennessee. 

Being in Music City with her husband, Eric Johnson, 43 and their kids Maxwell, 11, Ace, 10 and Birdie, four, was a welcome relief for everyone. 

‘Being in Nashville, even my kids are like, “You laugh the whole time. You’re so happy,”‘ she told E! News at a PetSafe event celebrating National Dog Day Saturday. 

Jessica attended the festivities with Maxwell and their pooch, Penny.

‘It’s because I’m not on guard,’ Jessica explained of her experience in the city which bills itself as ‘The Biggest Small Town in the World.’

‘I’m with a lot of like-minded people,’ Jessica claimed.

‘It’s not about the celebrities—it’s really about the music and the heart and the conversation.’

The focus on music has the Irresistible singer considering returning to the recording studio.

‘I’m not nervous at all, but if you were to ask me two years ago when I was talking about coming back to music, I was frightened,’ the Dukes of Hazzard star  admitted.

‘But now, I know exactly what I want.’

That seems returning to the business on her own terms. 

‘I’m building my own platform.’ she explained.

Selfie: Jessica shared a selfie of herself in a Walgreens in Nashville  standing next to a display with her photo. ‘Look who I found at Walgreens late last night searching for a screwdriver’ she wrote

‘I’m doing it for the first time—the way I would—without a label telling me I need to do this song or use this producer. It’s all me.’

The Be artist revealed she learned to make do while living in her rental home. 

‘I used thumb tacks to hang these $40 curtains up so I wouldn’t wake up with the sun,’ the handywoman said. 

‘I put together a TV with a butter knife. I was looking for a screwdriver, but I went to the wrong place. I went to Walgreens, I got lip gloss instead.’
