Jamie Carragher clashed with Jan Aage Fjortoft on social media after the former Sheffield United striker criticized the Liverpool defender for making fun of Martin Odegaard’s celebrations after Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Liverpool.

The win moved the Gunners to within two points of the leaders as Mikel Arteta’s side celebrated full-time.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ post-match commentary, Carragher was furious when Odegaard grabbed a photographer’s camera, before proceeding to take several pictures of the cameraman for the home fans behind the goal.

‘Just go into the tunnel. You won a game, three points, you’ve been brilliant. Back in the title race, enter the tunnel. I honestly mean it,” Carragher said after the match.

But he wasn’t done there yet: the 46-year-old made another joke during Odegaard’s festivities and posted a video of the Norwegian with the camera on X (formerly Twitter). He captioned the clip with Neil Warnock’s famous line: “By all means, enjoy it, but enjoy it by being disciplined!”

Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard were all on the scoresheet to give Arsenal the win, setting the jubilant scenes at full-time.

But Fjortoft didn’t see the funny side of Carragher’s joke and wrote in response: ‘Come on @Carra23. Let Martin show his passion! Also on the field. Give him this moment with his friends at Arsenal, like @Stuart_PhotoAFC.

The former Norway international added: ‘Nothing to do with being disciplined or not. Football could use more people expressing their love for the game. I know deep down you agree with me, buddy.”

But the ex-Liverpool defender hit back at Fjortoft, writing: ‘Jan, it’s a joke about a Neil Warnock quote, FFS! I like that you tagged them all, including the cameraman, so you get the retweets and likes you want.

‘I thought the camera stuff was a bit OTT, a bit like your claim that Mo Salah was leaving Liverpool!’

The Norwegian had stated in August that the Egyptian would leave the Merseyside club in the summer transfer window, and although there were strong rumors that he could leave amid speculation that he could move to Saudi Arabia, Salah ultimately stayed.

But the ex-Liverpool defender hit back at the former Sheffield United striker, saying: 'It's a joke about a Neil Warnock quote, FFS!'

The 57-year-old replied to Carragher again, saying: ‘Yes, Jamie! I’ve tagged Arsenal photographer Stuart MacFarlane as he has been with Arsenal since 1991. And he deserves all the credit – I think that’s the same Arsenal captain Martin O (Odegaard) thinking after their win. As for your last sentence: only a thief sees who is stealing.’

Carragher then continued with another quote made famous by Eric Cantona in 1995 after appearing at a press conference following his kung fu kick on Matthew Simmons while at Man United.

But Fjortoft had the last word and said: ‘I don’t think you’re going to throw me sardines…’

Despite their altercation, Warnock, former QPR, Cardiff and Middlesbrough boss, went to X to take a humorous swipe at Carragher.

He wrote: ‘I’m happy to hear your opinion, Carra, but make sure you have your own slogan!’

The 75-year-old is expected to return in the coming days to make a shock return to management after being linked with the head coach position at Aberdeen.

Carragher’s comments sparked widespread debate at full-time about how much players should celebrate.

Even Ian Wright hit back at his criticism of Arsenal’s reaction to the win, stating that his former team were well within their rights to celebrate the victory: ‘You guys can take the p**s if it doesn’t happen the way you normally do. , but now let’s enjoy!’

Carragher, who had his I’m going to enjoy every second of it.’
