Inside the celeb-chasing lifestyle of a Bollywood-obsessed businessman accused of defrauding the NDIS – as he lists his $2.3million mansion for sale

  • Man accused of illegally obtaining information on 40,000 NDIS clients
  • He allegedly used the documents to make false claims

A businessman has been accused of using illegally obtained medical documents to make false claims and provide disability services to NDIS patients.

Amit Sharma and the former NDIS employee accused of supplying him with the information of more than 40,000 NDIS customers, Leena Kumar, were brought before Parramatta Local Court on April 5.

Sharma is a respected figure in Sydney’s Indian community. She organized Bollywood red carpet events and glitzy balls while running a number of companies.

In one photo, the father and his wife Nikita were seen posing with popular Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam, who has 2.4 million followers on Instagram, during one of his concerts in Sydney in 2019.

Sharma is charged with making public protected agency information, capturing, using or disclosing protected agency information without authorization and with dishonest intent to gain profit.

Kumar, a former NDIS employee, is charged with recording, using or disclosing the agency’s protected information without consent, and official abuse of public office to cause harm.

Neither entered pleas and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on May 24.

Both Sharma and Kumar were permanently banned by the NDIS on November 15 from ‘directly or indirectly involved in the provision of NDIS support or services to people with disabilities’.

The ban also means they cannot manage or even access the management of NDIS funds.

It extends to a number of companies owned by Sharma and his wife, Nikita Patel Sharma, who has not been charged and is not part of any criminal proceedings.

A number of these companies are registered at their home address in Carlingford, in Sydney’s northwest, which is currently for sale.

The six-bedroom home on a 1,132 sqm lot has an estimated sales price of around $2.3 million, according to Domain.

Among their companies banned from working with the NDIS are a travel agency, Price Beat Holidays, Somya Academy and A4 Education.

The Somya Academy, of which Ms Sharma is the Managing Director, may award qualifications such as an Advanced Diploma of Leadership and Management, a Diploma of Leadership and Management and a Certificate III in Business.

A4 education operates the companies Clean App and Sang Cleaning Services. They are all registered at their home in Carlingford.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Ms Sharma for comment.
