The video was shot last summer, when he was in the middle of an intense training regimen to build his muscle in an attempt to portray the ripped X-Men character.

In the clip, filmed by his trainer, Hugh performed biceps curls and struggled to complete the set during the highly grueling workout as he prepared to be a superhero.

His trainer Beth Lewis turned the camera to her trusty canine assistant Andy, who barked as Hugh struggled to lift the weight.

Beth joked: “Andy tell him! Tell him one more (rep),” urging Hugh to continue the training.

In an accompanying caption, Hugh wrote: ‘When I was #becomingwolverineagain, my friend and trainer Beth Lewis was always by my side. And so did her trusted assistant Andy! #July26 #throwbackthursday.”

Filming for Deadpool 3, starring Hugh and Ryan Reynolds, wrapped in January and fans were treated to the epic film’s first trailer last month, ahead of its July 25 release date.

The clip featured Ryan in the role of Wade Wilson as he prepared to take on the Time Variance Authority and decide the fate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The trailer opened with Deadpool celebrating his birthday in the company of some of his friends, and he gave a short speech in which he graciously declared himself the “luckiest man alive.”

But the superhero is then visited by TVA agents and pulled through a portal, where he wakes up in the company of Paradox, played by Matthew Macfadyen.

In the throwback clip, filmed by his trainer Beth Lewis, Hugh performed biceps curls and struggled to complete the set during the highly grueling workout as he got ready to be superheroes.

Paradox informs the superhero that he has “an opportunity to be a hero among heroes” and leads him to a control room containing footage created by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Confident in his abilities, Wade tells Paradox, “Your little cinematic universe is about to change forever. I am the messiah. I am… Wonder Jesus.”

The superhero then takes on several TVA agents in different locations, and after one is chased away by an unseen force, he exclaims, “Oh my fuck!”

The mercenary then forcibly dispatches several attackers with both guns and his signature katanas.

Deadpool is later shot through a cement slab and is approached by Wolverine, who remains off-screen as the former jokes, “Don’t just stand there, you monkey, give me a hand up.”

Wolverine then shows off his claws, and the trailer ends after Wilson remarks, “No, I’m actually fine, thank you very much!”

It was rumored that Hugh would return to his old role, and in September 2022, his good friend Ryan subsequently confirmed that he would be playing Wolverine again.

Hugh previously said he was done playing James ‘Logan’ Howlett after 2017’s Logan, even after multiple pleas from Ryan, but ultimately decided to return for Deadpool 3 because it felt right in his gut.

Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin and Jennifer Garner will also appear in the feature, with the latter two reprising their roles as Vanessa and Elektra respectively.

Production on the film began in May 2023, and after filming was suspended due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, filming finally concluded in January 2024.
