If you’re an almond milk drinker, you’re going to go nuts over this hack.
Consistently buying almond milk can get expensive, especially with grocery prices rising. And while you could save money on the pricey plant-based bev the hard way — allowing prepped and peeled raw almonds to soak in water for many hours and straining out the infused nut juice — a new hack, shared by chef Alex Thomopoulos, requires minimal ingredients and can be done in no time.
The host of PBS’ “Moveable Feast,” on shared the money-saving tip on her Instagram page, and the video got 11,000 views.
In the clip, Thomopoulos starts off by putting two scoops of almond butter into a blender — not almonds, almond butter. She adds a pinch of salt, two tablespoons of maple syrup and an optional pinch of cinnamon to warm up the flavor.
Next, she fills the blender with filtered water and blends the mixture for about two minutes.
The result was a “silky smooth almond milk” that didn’t require any soaking or straining.
Thomopoulos pointed out in her caption that a carton of store-bought almond milk can cost around $8 these days, but this method costs her less than $2 and makes 6 to 8 cups of milk.
Several of Thomopoulos’ followers praised her “genius” shortcut in the comments section below, including a few who claimed to have already tried it and “can’t get over how cheap it is.”
