The Chief Executive Officer of the Music Copyright Council of Kenya Ezekiel Mutua has strongly criticized Gengetone Ssaru’s song ‘Kaskie Vibaya Huko Kwenu’.
Speaking in online news and television, Ezekiel Mutua said that the song does not have a message that can be heard by the young generation and that message is losing children morally.
“You heard the song of the girl singing to her ex-fiancé that she is now in a relationship with her father, ‘I have money and I like your father, go and listen badly’. To tell the truth, what are you saying to my daughter”
Ezekiel said that he would like artists to highlight and make music that encourages people to do morally acceptable things.
“It is important for artists to understand that they can use music to promote values in our communities, we can use music to bring peace and harmony between people in the world.”
Ezekiel continued his attacks on gospel musicians for what he feels is that these artists are negligent in entertaining their listeners and fans.
On Thursday, Ezekiel said that gospel artists have caused him great pain in his efforts to revive the music industry in Kenya.
“Since I joined MCK a year ago, the people who have given me the most pain in my efforts to revive the music industry in the country are gospel artists.”
Ezekiel admitted that within a year of serving as the chief executive officer of MCK, he has been able to confirm the claims made by comedian Erick Omondi earlier.
I think Erick Omondi was right when he said that there is something wrong with gospel artists”
According to him, this industry has many actors and the real gospel artistes are few.
