Emmerdale viewers praise Victoria for telling Amelia her false assault accusation would make it harder for real victims: 'You can't fight one lie with another'

Emmerdale viewers have praised Victoria Barton for talking some sense into Amelia Spencer after she almost made a false statement to the police about Lloyd Sawyer assaulting her during Wednesday’s episode.

Mechanic Dan (Liam Fox) was recently arrested after he confessed to hitting Lloyd (Matt Sutton) in a fit of anger having discovered the creepy man hanging around with his 16-year-old daughter Amelia (Daisy Campbell) after she attempted to make a name for herself on social media.

Dan’s single punch left Lloyd in a coma and nurse Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) told him of the hospital doctors’ plans after overhearing a conversation at the local GP practice. 

However, after Amelia discovers that Lloyd isn’t coming out of his coma, she unloaded on to Sarah, who suggested that she lied in a bid to keep her dad out of prison. 

Amelia went to the police station and declared her intentions to make a statement about Lloyd Sawyer.

Victoria told Amelia: ‘I really care that assault claims are taken seriously so all assault survivors are heard and believed’

But Amelia’s father Dan and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) rushed in just in time to stop her from making a false statement to the police.

After they got back home, Victoria confronted Amelia about what she was going to do, telling her lying would only make it harder for future victims of assault to be believed.

She said: ‘Amelia, you need to grasp the gravity of what you were about to do.’

Amelia replied: ‘I needed to do something, fight back.’

Victoria said: ‘Fight one lie with another lie? It doesn’t work like that. You need to understand something.

‘I didn’t get the outcome I wanted when I was raped so I really care that assault claims are taken seriously so all assault survivors are heard and believed. Lying makes it a thousand times harder for survivors to be heard.’

Amelia then broke down in tears as she hugged her dad and said: ‘I messed up, OK. I tried to fix things and I’m still messing up. I can’t make this right, can I?’

Viewers took to Twitter to praise Victoria’s speech, with one writing: ‘Well said Victoria, can’t fight one lie with another. Actions have consequences.’

Emotional: Amelia then broke down in tears as she hugged her dad and said: ‘I messed up, OK. I tried to fix things and I’m still messing up. I can’t make this right, can I?’

Another wrote: ‘For once Vic is making so much sense,’ while a third added: ‘Victoria talking sense, that’s a first.’

A fourth wrote: ‘Amelia is following in daddy’s footsteps – she’s a total car crash!’

Previously, Dan’s mind raced when Wendy told him that they might be bringing Lloyd out of his coma.

Later, Julie verbally attacked Amelia, who was soon thrown when Julie’s rage turned to tears, revealing that Lloyd isn’t coming out of his coma.

Amelia was left in turmoil as a raging Julie exited, determined to bring Amelia down.

After suggesting that Amelia lie, Sarah later had a change of heart… but Amelia is determined to do whatever it takes to protect her Dad.

Dan was arrested after he confessed to hitting Lloyd in a fit of anger after discovering the creepy man hanging around with his 16-year-old daughter Amelia.

And while his loved ones had advised him to lay low after he was released on bail, a guilty Dan made the situation worse as he visited Lloyd in hospital, where he bumped into the victim’s wife Julie.

After Julie had initially mistaken him for the person who gave her husband CPR, the penny soon dropped for her about Dan’s true identity and an argument soon ensued.

But as Dan gave Julie some home truths about her stalker husband, things got heated between them resulting in Dan shouting that he’d punch Lloyd again if he had to.
