Love Island USA Season 5 Episode 15 made one thing clear: The rest of America loves Bergie just as much as we do. The 23-year-old Dairy Queen manager from South Dakota may not be the hottest or most experienced of Islanders, but who doesn’t love an underdog?!
To get you caught up on the constantly reshuffling couples of the season, at the most recent recoupling, bombshells Emily, Kenzo, and Jonah got to choose first. Emily coupled up with Harrison, Kenzo with Carmen, and Jonah with Destiny. Their decisions left Anna, who was next to pick, in a tough position. She previously called things off with Leo after he went back to Kassy, decided her and Bergie were better as friends, and the remaining two boys Marco and Keenan already formed strong connections with Hannah and Kay Kay. After an adorable little spiel, Anna decided the best choice for her was to leave the island single. But wait! Where does this leave Bergie? Unfortunately, it leaves him single and vulnerable.
Now back to last night’s episode. After a fun day in the sun at the Fiji villa and lots of discussions around where Bergie’s “person” is, Bergie got a text! America chose him to go on a date with brand new bombshell Imani. Bergie is beaming over the opportunity to meet Imani before anyone else and possibly win her over.
Kay Kay was also chosen to go on a date with the second bombshell Mike, effectively making Keenan jealous after he pushed her to get to know someone new. Oh, how the tables have turned.
On the date, we found out that Imani usually goes for nerdy guys, because “bad boys just aren’t my type” — things are already looking good for nerdy-nice-guy Bergie. The self-proclaimed LA girl wowed Bergie with her “supermodel” looks and impressive smarts, as a student majoring in cell and molecular biology. Over a glass of champagne, the two gabbed over their love of mitochondria and learning about how nerves work — these flirty nerds would’ve made the perfect lab partners in chemistry class. She even shared that Bergie’s fresh flirting skills made her blush.
Back at the villa, Destiny and Leo find out that they would be going on dates with the new Islanders as well. Mike and Destiny seemed to really hit it off, and while Leo flirted with Imani, Kassy panicked at the villa. Will this be an Anna situation all over again? The episode ends before we can really find out.
But if you ask me, Kassy and Leo have a good thing going, and come on, Bergie deserves the nerd-loving bombshell! Imani really could be Bergie’s person — I mean, they already have their own secret handshake.
