Corrie's Stephanie Davis reflects on feeling suicidal during the height of her alcohol addiction: 'I didn't see a way out'

Stephanie Davis has admitted that she felt suicidal when her mental health hit rock bottom whilst battling alcohol addiction.

The Coronation Street actress, 30, told the Mirror: ‘When I was in that bad phase, I was suicidal.’

Stephanie sought treatment in rehab after drinking every day following the end of her turbulent relationship with Jeremy McConnell, who she shares son Caben with.

She continued: ‘I didn’t see a way out. That’s why I love what I do now, because I can show people that if I can do it, they can too.

‘I can say, “This is where I was, and this is what happened, and this is where I am now.” I can help them through their journey – it’s the gift that keeps on giving.’

Looking at it in a more positive light now, Stephanie added: ‘Everybody goes through ups and downs at different points in their lives, but these hard times are where you grow as a person, learn the most valuable life lessons and get redirected on to the path you are meant to be on.’

Stephanie has always been open about her battle with mental health and alcohol addiction.

The former CBB star revealed she drank three bottles of wine every morning and ‘didn’t want to live’ at the height of her mental illness.

Fuelled by achieving fame at the tender age of 17, the actress got addicted to alcohol and was consequentially booted off Hollyoaks as she arrived on set ‘unfit for work’ in July 2015.
