He explained: ‘It’s amazing, we’ve been so blessed, he’s doing incredible and it’s an incredible gift from our surrogate Rachel to start a family and now it is all nappies, sleepless nights, feeding.

‘Life is so different now to when it was just the two of us.’

When asked how being same sex parents has been, James responded: ‘It’s been really positive, we’ve had the odd comment like “is it mum’s day off” but I just politely correct them.’

Speaking about 10 years of same sex marriage, James said: ‘When I think back to when I was a child growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, gay marriage wasn’t legal, gay adoption, schools couldn’t talk about same sex sexuality.

‘Within our lifetime we have progressed so much and here we are with gay marriage and it does feel incredible that we have that right.

Mark added: ‘We have so much to be grateful for. There’s been so much fighting done in the past to get us to where we are today and we just can’t forget that. There’s a long way to go still but we are grateful we are where we are today.

‘Everyday we see these reminders on social media, homophobic, transphobic and it is just a reminder that we have a long way to go but we are living proof families like us can exist today.’

James took to Instagram in May to reveal his happy baby news, sharing a snap of the couple and their newborn as well as their ‘incredible’ surrogate.

He penned: ‘Here we go!!! We are all so thrilled and our hearts are bursting with joy. Introducing Oliver James Titterton-Greenwood, born 9.54 pm last night, 7.8 pounds.

‘Baby and Dads all doing great, more importantly so is our incredible surrogate Rachael – the most incredible human being on this planet who has blown us all away with her phenomenal generosity and incredible strength

‘Our hearts are overflowing with joy. J&M Xxx.’

James’ Morning Live co-stars shared more pictures of the new father as they announced the news on air and revealed the newborn had been named after the one-eyed golden Labrador Oli who appeared on the show for two years before his death last year.

Host Gethin Jones said: ‘You’ll remember Oliver, who we lost six months ago now – and I just love it. Oliver was just so amazing, so gracious, so calm when we first started Morning Live.

‘He was so lovely and now we’ve got another little Oliver in the family!’

Co-host Kimberley Walsh agreed: ‘His energy was incredible as I’m sure the little boy will be!

‘And Rachel the surrogate is doing well, they’re all doing well. I’m so so happy for you James.’

James previously discussed the news he was expecting the child on the show, saying: ‘I’m going to try and do this without crying. We’re very excited to say that we are expecting a baby, me and my husband.

‘We have got an incredible surrogate and her beautiful family who are helping us out. It feels quite incredible that I’m able to say it.’

He revealed that the new arrival is expected in May and that he and Mark are ‘absolutely thrilled’ to be having a little boy.

James first took to social media to reveal the announcement in March.

Posting a loved-up snap with his partner of 15 years, Mark, while skiing in the French Alps, James revealed a set of baby scans.

The Bristol-born star revealed they were enjoying their last holiday with just the two of them as he shared details about their surrogacy journey.

Announcing the news as the pair grinned in their ski goggles, the vet wrote on Instagram: ‘Some news! Having not been abroad together for nearly 4 years, it felt so perfect to be back in the sunny and snow capped French Alps this past week, to the place where we met almost 15 years ago.’
