Ashley Judd shares photo of herself walking again in Switzerland after suffering acute leg injury 2.5 years ago… as she credits medical team for her 'stunning recovery'

Ashley Judd gave fans a health update on Saturday as she appeared on Instagram to share she’s walking again after suffering a serious leg injury in February 2021.

The 55-year-old actress — who has been mourning mother Naomi Judd’s death — showed fans photos of herself standing and walking in Switzerland.

Judd wrote in a caption to her 642,000 followers, ‘Walking. Switzerland. After 5 breaks in right leg, a paralyzed foot, possible amputation, all while hemorrhaging, my leg and I have come far in 2.5 years since my accident in Democratic Republic of Congo.’

The carousel of images featured the star smiling from ear-to-ear as she stood in front of a waterfall in the Alps.

‘We came far up these Alps, for the sheer joy of it, confidently. Ongoing gratitude of profound proportions to the Congolese who saved me, and the surgeons, neurologist, and physical therapist who set me up for this stunning recovery,’ Ashley added in the note.

She then asked her audience, ‘How are you celebrating your blessings?’

Judd wore dark leggings that cropped at her calves, and a loose-fitting gray T-shirt as she enjoyed the outdoors.

The She Said actress wore a big floppy hat that protected her from sunrays.

Ashley also had on white socks, faded red Nike sneakers, and a the strap of a white sports bra peeked out from under her shirt.

Her long, dark hair was pulled back into a low ponytail that trailed down her back.

Outtakes showed Wynonna Judd’s younger sister taking in the scene of a vast, lush, mountainous landscape.

Featured in the captivating photos were a blue sky with fluffy white clouds, butterflies, hiking sticks, and waterfalls.

In February 2021, Ashley revealed she had shattered her leg while on a trip to Congo, when a faulty head lamp made it hard for her to see during an excursion.

She said she tripped over a fallen tree, causing her to break her leg, during an Instagram Live with Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times, according to People.

During the conversation Ashley said that she was ‘in an ICU trauma unit in beautiful South Africa, which has taken me in from the Congo: a country I deeply love which is not, unfortunately, equipped to deal with massive catastrophic injuries like I had.’

The actress described how she ‘nearly lost her leg’ during the excursion, adding: ‘I am accustomed to being there. I am a woman of the wilderness, as you know.

‘Accidents do happen. I struck something in the dark and fell.’

Ashley said after the accident, the next 55 hours were ‘harrowing’ as she ‘started with five hours of lying on the forest floor.’

She was with a colleague like that until she was able to be evacuated, the star explained.

‘With his leg under my badly misshapen leg, biting my stick. Howling like a wild animal,’ Judd revealed.

At the end of the fifth hour, someone came to reset her bones while she was ‘going into shock’ and ‘passing out’ because of the pain.

Afterwards, she spent ‘an hour and a half in a hammock, being carried out of the rainforest’ in order to return to the camp.

In July 2021 Ashley gave fans an update on her leg, five months after her accident, revealing that her leg and foot ‘worked beautifully’ as she continued to build up her stamina and strength.

In October 2022 Ashley revealed she fractured her leg in a ‘freak accident’ while mourning her mother’s April 2022 death by suicide.

She said the femoral condyle fracture happened over the summer and it healed in two months, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

During an appearance at an Open Mind lecture with Dr. Jonathan Flint, Judd explained, ‘It was what it was. Clumsiness is associated with grief, and there were other people in our family, after mom died, who fell down stairs and had accidents, and that’s just what mine happened to look like.

‘It really allowed me to grieve. It really allowed me to stop what I was working on at that moment and to grieve.’
