Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson said a fond farewell to her loved ones on Friday’s episode of Mama June: Family Crisis before heading off to college.
In the latest installment of the series, the 18-year-old reality TV personality was joined by some of her family members before moving from Georgia to Colorado for college.
The media figure – who has struggled to balance her love life and educational ambitions – said that although she came from what she described as a ‘dysfunctional’ family, she was grateful for their support.
Alana said a particularly warm farewell to her older sister Anna, with whom she had a candid conversation about the latter’s battle with adrenal carcinoma.
The professional dancer’s sibling ultimately succumbed to her disease last December at the age of 29, and she remained close to her family through much of her treatment.

Anna revealed that she told her younger sister at the start of her college career to “not worry about me” during the episode.
The media figure added that she, as well as her loved ones, were all extremely affected by the departure of their youngest sister.
“It’s a bittersweet moment to see Alana leave the driveway, because Alana chose to leave,” she said.
Anna went on to say that despite the emotional weight of the departure, she was happy to see Alana pursue higher education.
“I’m glad she didn’t stay because of me or anything else – and that makes me very happy,” she said.
Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird also praised her younger sister, who she lovingly described as her “biggest baby,” ahead of her departure to Colorado.
“Mama June” Shannon also watched her youngest child go off to college, and she noted that she was “so proud” of Alana for her academic achievements.
“I’m going to miss her, she’s my youngest daughter and she’s the first to leave Georgia,” she added.
