Imlie, in distress, retreats to her room. Noyonika, noticing Agastya’s unease, proposes a picnic as a diversion.
The narrative takes a dark turn when Sunita, Chintamani’s spouse, ignites a controversy by accusing Noyonika of having a pre-marital abortion and alleging Agastya to be her child. Her accusations are met with a stern warning from Annapurna. Agastya assures Sunita that her daughter need not fear him as he respects women. Sunita retorts that he should have shown the same respect to Noyonika.
