A mum who put her ex-partner ‘through hell’ with false allegations of rape and assault has been jailed for more than three years at Northampton Crown Court.

Sinead Nelson, 28, from Irthlingborough, claimed on several occasions that she was raped, assaulted and sent malicious messages by her ex-partner.

Her false claims led to her arrest and questioning on four different occasions, by two different police forces.

The emotional distress he experienced due to her false accusations completely isolated him – he lost his home, job, friendships and support from his family.

In the victim’s statement, he said that Nelson had previously threatened to destroy his life and according to him, she had succeeded.

On September 11, 2020, she reported to the police that her ex-partner had contacted her on Snapchat and threatened to rape and kill her, as well as threatening her children.

Less than a month later, Nelson, also known as Kylie Howard, made a second report to Northamptonshire Police claiming the same man had again threatened to kill her.

She told officers he sent her a picture of her house and said he was going there to rape her and burn her alive.

Police immediately arrested her ex-partner and reinstated Nelson as an emergency and gave her a new phone.

But her lies were finally exposed when it was discovered that the image of her home she claimed to have been sent to her had been removed from property website Zoopla.

Police then discovered that she had not only sent herself the threatening Snapchat messages, but had made two complaints about her ex to the Metropolitan Police in July and August 2020 when she was living in London.

Nelson admitted one count of intent to pervert the course of public justice, namely making false claims and destroying evidence in connection with a police investigation between July 9 and November 6, 2020.

Detective Constable Eleanor Hudson, of Northamptonshire Police, said: “Over five months in 2020, Sinead Nelson put her ex-partner through hell by claiming she was the victim of sexual violence, abuse and threats at his hands, when in in fact she had created fake accounts using his name and hacking into his email to send abusive and threatening messages to herself.

“These included shocking threats of violent rape, aggravated assault, arson and destruction of children, and also appeared to indicate stalking.

As a result, Nelson was initially treated as a high-risk domestic abuse victim and at serious risk of murder, resulting in emergency protective measures being taken.

“However it didn’t take long for us to find digital and physical evidence to prove that this man could not have been responsible for the things she claimed and her lies about him began to unravel – but not before he went through a disturbing situation. the experience of being arrested and interrogated on four different occasions.

“In his victim impact statement, the man detailed the terrible impact this has all had on him, including significant emotional distress over what he has been accused of, the loss of friendships and family support as a result, having to leave home his and the loss. his work – all against the backdrop of Covid, which further exacerbated his isolation.

He told us that Nelson had threatened to destroy his life and according to him, she succeeded.

“I really hope that now that she has admitted her guilt and been sentenced to prison, he is able to move on to a more positive future.”
