National Geographic Unveils Trailblazing Natural History Series ‘QUEENS’ Trailer, Narrated by Angela Bassett

National Geographic today released an exciting video for their next female-led documentary series, “QUEENS,” which will premiere on National Geographic on March 4th and then on Disney+ and Hulu the following day.

The documentary, which breaks new ground in the natural history genre, takes viewers on a captivating trip across six diverse animal QUEENdoms ruled by powerful matriarchs, all set against the soundtrack of Billie Eilish’s Sizzling hit “you should see me in a crown.”

Guided by the commanding narration of award-winning actress Angela Bassett, known for her roles in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “The Flood,” QUEENS transports viewers to a world where the narrative is shaped by a female-led production team, a remarkable feat in natural history programming. The series investigates matriarchies and female leaders around the world, delving into stories of sacrifice, resilience, friendship, and love.

From the peace-loving bonobos of the Congo basin to the vicious jewel bees of Costa Rica and the strong elephants of the Savanna, each episode delves into the complexity of animal QUEENdoms. Through hardships, triumphs, and heartbreaks, QUEENS demonstrates the value of intergenerational love, mothers’ fierce drive, the impact of power dynamics on families, and mothers’ unshakable tenacity in the face of tragedy.

Four years after its creation, QUEENS uses cutting-edge technology to provide previously unseen insights into how females in the natural world come to power, emphasizing cooperation and intellect over physical might. The series covers ground-breaking moments, such as rare footage of hyena infanticide, the first recording of bonobos in the canopy, color documentation of the Ngorongoro Crater at night, and a time-lapse of the Orchid bee brood.
