Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has asked anti-Finance Bill 2024 protesters to invade parliament on Tuesday as they stage demonstrations.

Speaking in a video shared via his official X account on Monday, June 24, 2024, Babu promised to open the doors of parliament to welcome everyone even as the controversial bill is presented for the Third Reading.

“Wakenya kesho mkuje bungeni mnakaribishwa huko, mimi mwenyewe ntakuja hapo niwafungulie gate ya bunge na mkuje mkunywe chai huko,” he said.

Loosely translates to;

“Kenyans present yourselves in parliament tomorrow, you are welcome, I will personally open the gates for you to come and have tea.”

Babu’s announcement comes ahead of the much-anticipated demonstrations by the youths which have gained momentum across different parts of the country.

Yesterday, a section of Kenyans in Nyahururu protested against the bill and demanded the presence of President William Ruto who was attending a church service at Ndururi Primary School.

Ruto, however, fled the scene after the church service to avoid confrontation with the protesters who had pitched camp outside the venue.

Discontent with the controversial bill has grown, gaining attention from both international and local populations.

Despite the government’s continued emphasis on the bill’s benefits, many young people took to the streets last week to show their dissatisfaction, they have since vowed to continue with the protests until the government gives in to their demands.
