Mombasa-based actor Dan Sonko recently paid a heartfelt tribute to his ex-partner, Winnie Bwire Ndubi, who passed away on September 5 after battling cancer. Though they had separated in 2023, Dan and Winnie stayed close, and their strong connection touched many.
At Bwire Ndubi’s memorial service at Deliverance Mt. Zion Church in Mombasa on September 15, Sonko, who had been off social media for over a year, shared an emotional tribute that left mourners in tears.
“Our prayer was she would come out of this victorious,” he shared.
“I guess in God’s own way, this is a form of victory because there is no more pain for her, but there is pain right here. I have nothing to say,” Sonko emotionally said.
The two were once been a beloved couple, admired by many for serving couple goals.
Although they amicably parted ways, they continued to support each other.
Why Dan Sonko and Bwire Ndubi Separated
Bwire Ndubi and Dan Sonko’s separation was primarily due to her battle with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a rare form of breast cancer, which was a difficult journey for both of them.
Dan, reflecting on the reasons for their breakup, shared, “I ended the relationship for Bwire, for me, and for the kids. We didn’t want to keep pushing through the fight when so much uncertainty loomed.”
He explained how the thought of losing another partner after the death of his first wife weighed heavily on him.
“I had some personal struggles because of her journey. For me, I was seeing death. I had questions, and I was asking God, this is number two, you want to take away from me?”
Winnie Bwire will be laid to rest on September 21 in Kholera, Mumias, in Kakamega County.
Her memory continues to live on through the hearts of those who loved and cherished her.
