MCA TRICKY EXPLAINS WHY HE CHOSE THE CHOKORA CHARACTER

MCA Tricky, the well-known comedian, recently shared how he came up with his famous “chokora” (street kid) character on Churchill Show.

While he has never been a street kid, the idea was inspired by both his own experiences and a clever plan to stand out in the comedy world.

Tricky noticed that most comedians dressed up smartly on stage.

The then year 2 Mechanical Engineering student at KU thought, “Why not do something different?”

So, he chose to play the part of a street kid, a character based on a real friend who lived on the streets and always had funny stories to share.

“I almost ended up on the streets myself, so the character felt real to me,” Tricky said, alluding to the time when his scholarship was terminated while in Form 2.

His unique approach paid off when he auditioned for the Churchill Show. The audience loved the character, and that’s when MCA Tricky was born.

His dirty coat and street-smart humor became his signature style.

But not everyone was on board. Some people criticized him, wondering if he was making fun of street kids or trying to gain sympathy. Despite the criticism, Tricky stuck with his character, confident in his choice.

One big setback came when his signature coat was stolen from a clothesline in Ruiru. He had to go back to Gikomba market to find a new one.

“I was living in Ruiru and one day at the clothesline, it was stolen. Maze I had to go back to Gikosh to look for another one,” He said.
