The Olympic love split! Paris ISN’T the City of Love for sailing gold medallist, as she reveals she’s broken up with her footballer girlfriend during the Games

  • Footballer Lea Schuller and sailor Lara Vadlau both participated in the Games
  • The couple had been in a relationship for several years and shared their relationship online
  • Schuller had expressed her excitement about going to Paris with her other half

The possibility of Paris actually becoming the city of love during the Olympic Games ended when two athletes announced they had split.

Footballer Lea Schuller and sailor Lara Vadlau were in a relationship before the Games. They regularly spoke about their love and shared photos of their life together on social media.

They represented different countries at the Games. Schuller is from Germany and plays for Bayern Munich and her country, while Vadlau is from Austria.

They had hoped to spend some time together in the French capital, but it seems that the relationship quickly deteriorated, so much so that it is now no longer a relationship.

Speaking to O3, Vadlau revealed that the relationship is over, but stressed that the two are still on good terms.

“Lea is no longer my partner,” she said. “Of course I’m very proud of her and we’re still very good friends and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for her.”

There seemed to be little sign that the relationship was about to end. Schuller said she was very excited about going to the Games with her significant other, despite them playing on different teams.

“It’s great that we both arrived in Paris,” she said ahead of the match. “Maybe we’ll see each other a few more times.”

‘We rarely see each other, only about 100 days a year, because Lara is away a lot and trains hard in preparation for the Games.’

Schuller, 26, began her playing career at Hulser SV before moving to SGS Essen in 2012. She made her debut in the Frauen Bundesliga at the age of 16 and went on to make over 100 appearances for the club before joining Bayern in 2020.

Today she is a regular for the German top team and the national team. In 85 games for her club she scored 57 goals and in 66 games for her country 45.

She started as a striker for Germany in their 2-1 defeat to England at Wembley in the Euro 2022 final.

Germany lost 1-0 to the United States in the semi-finals of the Olympic Games this week and will play the bronze medal match against Spain on Friday.
