Makueni is proud of producing Olympic champion – Mutula Kilonzo congratulates Yavi for scooping gold medal

Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo has praised athlete Yavi Mutile for her exemplary performance during 3000 metres steeplechase at the Paris Olympic Games.

In a statement, Kilonzo acknowledged that Yavi’s win was a product of sheer hard work and discipline.

He also noted that her parents played a vital role in shaping her career and enabling her to win.

“I had occasion to sit with Yavi Mutile and her parents in Wote last year. Her victory in P******s a product of sheer hard work and discipline. Her parents have played a big role in her career,” the statement reads in parts.

Kilonzo expressed pride in the athlete who won a gold medal stating that her win is a reminder to the country to be deliberate on the country’s sports sector.

“This is proof that we have talent in all parts of Kenya. We, the p****e of Makueni are proud to have produced an Olympic champion
It is also a reminder to the country to be deliberate on matters sports Congratulations Yavi, your parents and coach for a stellar performance,” Kilonzo added.

Yavi scooped a gold medal for Bahrain beating Kenya’s Faith Cherotich who secured a bronze medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase. The 24-year-old who hails from Ukia, Makueni County has had an exceptional athletic career over the years.

Last year, she scooped a gold medal in the World Athletics Championships (3000m steeplechase). She also won a gold medal in the 2019 Asian Athletics Championships (3000m steeplechase).

She transferred her allegiance from Kenya to represent Bahrain after she turned 15.
