West Ham announce £23m signing of Germany international Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund with hilarious reference to the striker’s nickname

West Ham have announced the signing of Germany international Niclas Fullkrug.

The 31-year-old player has long been linked with a move from Borussia Dortmund to the London Stadium this summer.

After undergoing a medical over the weekend, the club confirmed the arrival of Fullkrug on Monday for a reported fee of over £23million.

“I’m happy to be here and I can’t wait to get on the pitch with my new teammates,” Fullkrug told the club’s website.

‘I think the Premier League is the best league in the world and for me it’s the right time to move to England and play for a big club like West Ham.

“I’ve been thinking about West Ham for a while. I know technical director Tim Steidten very well, because we have a history together at Werder Bremen. I’ve seen a few games and seen how much quality there is in the team.

‘The chance to play under the head coach [Lopetegui] is also really exciting. His style of play is important to me, and I am confident that I will be able to perform at my best under him and score a lot of goals.
