Scope of Consultancy
The Research Office within AKU’s Medical College in East Africa is seeking experienced and highly qualified consultant grant writers to enhance its research portfolio. The Medical College comprises 11 academic departments focused on clinical, biomedical, and population health sciences. Its mission includes producing healthcare leaders, building robust research programs, and supporting health service delivery through regional and global partnerships.
To support this vision, the Research Office is engaging consultant grant writers in the following fields:
- Clinical Research
- Diagnostics/Pathology
- Biomedical Sciences
- Public/Population Health Research
- Health Systems/Health Policy
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will work with Medical College departments to:
- Identify Funding Opportunities: Research and identify funding sources that align with departmental objectives.
- Proposal Development: Collaborate with faculty to craft compelling, persuasive grant proposals, including preparing supporting documents.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ensure that proposals align with the department’s goals by working closely with faculty and stakeholders.
- Respond to Queries: Address internal and external queries related to drafted and submitted proposals.
- Record Maintenance: Maintain comprehensive records and reports related to grant opportunities.
- Compliance: Ensure all proposals adhere to funder requirements and AKU’s grant and research regulations.
Qualifications
Applicants should meet one of the following criteria:
- PhD in any of the focus fields listed above with at least 3 years of intensive research and grant writing experience.
- MSc in any of the focus fields listed above with at least 5 years of intensive research and grant writing experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of the extramural health research funding landscape.
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the specified fields of focus.
