Under-fire New York Mayor Eric Adams sparks furious meltdown over MLB cap

With the potential for New York’s first real Subway Series since 2000 looming, embattled Mayor Eric Adams is apparently covering his bases.

The 64-year-old Democrat marched in the 80th Columbus Day Parade on Monday wearing a dark baseball cap emblazoned with the Yankees and Mets logos.

Unfortunately for Adams, who was indicted last month on bribery, campaign finance and conspiracy charges, the concession did not appear to go down well with his voters.

“He should be charged for this alone,” one Yankee fan wrote online.

“You’d think this wouldn’t even be something that should be for sale, and yet…,” another fan wrote, sharing a link to similar items online.

Eric Adams, the 64-year-old Democrat, marched in the 80th Columbus Day Parade on Monday wearing a dark baseball hat bearing the logos of both the Yankees and Mets.

Currently, the Mets trail the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series after Sunday’s 9-0 Game 1 loss. New York’s Sean Manaea will start Game 2 against Dodgers reliever Ryan Brasier while LA manager Dave Roberts plans to stick with the bullpen for Monday’s matinee.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ Carlos Rodon will take the mound in the Bronx against Cleveland’s Alex Cobb on Monday night in Game 1 of the American League Championship Series.

Adams’ blunder is similar to that of Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff, who was caught wearing both San Francisco Giants and Dodgers hats during an online birthday tribute to the vice president.

Only unlike the Yankees and Mets, who typically only face each other during interleague games, the Dodgers and Giants have been fierce rivals dating back to their days in New York, when they played in Brooklyn and Manhattan, respectively.

“This is f***ed up,” one user replied, while another said: “This would decide my vote.”

However, he is then seen wearing a Giants cap - the Dodgers' long-standing rivals - in another photo of him and Harris

Adams has denied the allegations of corruption and has steadfastly refused to resign amid the ongoing scandal.

The news isn’t much better for the Mets, who learned that outfielder Brandon Nimmo is dealing with painful plantar fasciitis, he told The Athletic.

The condition has been bothering him since May, and while it still bothers him, he doesn’t expect to sit during the ongoing NLCS.

“I think if I really need it, I’m probably not 100 percent, but I can get going pretty well,” Nimmo said. ‘But it’s uncomfortable.

“It’s the NLCS,” he added. “You do what you can to come out and help in any way you can.”

The 31-year-old had a down year, hitting just .224. However, in 151 games, he hit 23 home runs and added 90 RBIs and 15 stolen bases – both career highs.
