According to Russian media, American journalist Evan Gershkovich may be released as part of a prisoner exchange.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the reporter is among 20 to 30 political prisoners exchanged with the country. Moscow Times.

Both the United States and Germany are said to be involved in the deal, with a source telling the Russian news agency that the transaction could be “imminent.”

This comes amid rumours in Russia that a risky prisoner swap is underway, with high-profile inmates being taken from their prisons and transferred to an unknown location.

According to the Russian news agency, other prisoners could also be involved in the deal, including people with ties to Alexei Navalny, Vladimir Putin’s political opponent who was found dead in a prison camp in February.

If reports of an exchange of up to 30 prisoners are true, it would be the largest prisoner swap between the United States and Russia since the end of the Cold War.
