What a comeback! KIIS FM’s dumped presenters Jason Hawkins and Lauren Phillips get the ultimate revenge by topping Melbourne radio ratings

Jilted KIIS FM stars Jason ‘Jase’ Hawkins and Lauren Phillips have taken the ultimate revenge by topping the Melbourne radio ratings.

Last year, the duo’s morning schedule in Melbourne was axed to make way for Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson’s major expansion of their Sydney gigs.

Amid all the competition, The Jase and Lauren Show, now airing on rival network Nova FM, has been crowned Melbourne’s most listened to breakfast program.

The comedy talk show has taken the coveted first place in the recently released results of GFK’s fifth radio ratings survey for 2024.

Jase and Lauren’s popular show rose 0.3 points and 9.9 percent in audience share, putting it a clear lead over rivals The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Kyle and Jackie O trailed significantly with a 6.1 percent share after its Melbourne premiere on April 29. It was the city’s fifth most listened to morning show.

However, Melbourne newcomers Kyle and Jackie O did slightly boost the city’s ratings, from 5.9 to 6.1 percent.

Fox FM’s Fifi, Fev and Nick came in second place with a 9.6 percent audience share, while Gold FM’s Christian O’Connell was in third place.

Kyle and Jackie O brought their morning show to Melbourne in April in a huge multi-million dollar expansion deal, which led to the axing of Jase and Lauren’s morning show on KIIS FM.

Kyle said at the time that he didn’t care if his competitors got fired, because in the end it was all about who got the most listeners.

“No, I don’t care. That’s why we went to Melbourne, we thought, ‘We’ve given Jase and Lauren a good run on KIIS FM, it can’t go higher than fourth in the radio ratings, so we’ll take it,’” he told news.com.au.

Despite the station’s ratings decline in Melbourne, The Kyle and Jackie O Show once again saw KIIS FM take the top spot as the city’s most listened to radio station.

The popular morning show attracted 750,000 listeners across Sydney each week, up 50,000 on the previous survey.

Duncan Campbell, Chief Content Officer of ARN, paid tribute to Kyle and Jackie O’s success in a statement.

‘They continue to prove why they are regarded as one of the best breakfast shows in the world, attracting over 1.24 million listeners each week, ranking No. 1 in Sydney for the 45th consecutive year and showing promising growth in Melbourne.
