USWNT fans slam Korbin Albert’s selection to Olympic roster after anti-LGBTQ+ social media posts: ‘Is it one of God’s miracles if she get injured?’

The US women’s national team is under fire after Korbin Albert was controversially selected for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris despite sharing anti-LGBTQ+ posts on social media.

The midfielder has been booed during recent national team matches, but she was one of 18 players named to the squad this week by coach Emma Hayes.

The selection raised eyebrows, given the negative reactions to Albert’s social media activity from her own teammates, and because two-time World Cup winner Alex Morgan was not on the list.

On Thursday, the USWNT’s official account on X, formerly Twitter, published a post dedicated to each of the 18 players heading to Paris.

“She calls Paris home, and that is our mission,” the team wrote alongside a photo of Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Albert making a heart gesture over the U.S. crest.

The message led to angry reactions from many supporters. “Would rather have someone who won gold like Alex Morgan than a girl who makes homophobic comments,” one person wrote.

‘I can’t wait to hear the boos from the TV!! I’m going to be booing at home!’ wrote another. “Is it one of God’s miracles if she gets hurt?” asked a third.

Albert previously posted a video of a Christian prayer room preaching against homosexuality and transsexuality.

In another TikTok post – which has since been deleted – Albert showed her family saying “their pronouns are US” over the Fourth of July weekend.

Screenshots show the midfielder also previously ‘liked’ a post celebrating Megan Rapinoe’s injury during the 2023 NWSL Championship — her final ever game.

There were supporters who supported Albert’s choice, but there were also plenty of others who criticized the midfielder – and Hayes.

‘Should have been forced to stay home and attend Pride meetings and counselling. “Fans are going to boo her no matter how well she plays on the court until she lets her actions speak instead of her words,” one person wrote.

“Her actions to date have disgraced our national teams and what we stand for.”

Another added: “Bigotry and hate have no place in the USWNT. This was the wrong decision.”
