US Open – Men’s final live: Home favourite Taylor Fritz takes on world No 1 Jannik Sinner as American chases first Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows

The two dreamy players emerge and a cacophony of noise ensues as the spectators wait for the new US Open champion to be crowned.

Most of that rumour obviously goes to favourite Taylor Fritz, but there is also some Italian support for Sinner, who is looking to further build on his status as world number 1.

Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova is pictured arriving at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre.

Sharapova won the US Open in 2006, when she defeated Justine Henin in three sets.

If tonight’s match is anything like the women’s singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pergula, then we’re in for something special.

The Belarusian won 7-5 7-5, beating the American in an intense battle. For Sabalenka, this meant redemption after her defeat in the final last year.
