A mysterious corpse was discovered floating in the sea near Bang Saray, sparking an urgent investigation into the cause of death, which remains unclear whether it resulted from murder or accident. The deceased, unidentified and of a large build, was found with a tattoo reading HOPE CLUB on the left wrist.
Yesterday, November 20, at 4.30pm, Santi Chon, an assistant investigator at Sattahip Police Station in Chon Buri, received a report of a body found floating in the sea near Koh Ped, Bang Saray Bay. The location was approximately 3 to 4 nautical miles from the coast of Bang Saray, Sattahip district, Chon Buri.
Rescue teams from the Sawang Rojanathammasathan Foundation were called to retrieve the body and bring it ashore for further examination.
Upon reaching the scene in the middle of the sea, a fishing boat was found stationed nearby, keeping watch over the corpse. The body, believed to be that of a foreign national, was found face down, wearing blue beach-patterned shorts.
The tattoo on the left wrist reading HOPE CLUB served as a distinctive mark. It is estimated that the man had been dead for approximately three to six days before being recovered and brought ashore.
Rescue officials revealed that earlier in the morning, a fishing vessel in the area had reported sighting the body near Koh Rang Kwian, located about 13 kilometres west of Jomtien Beach, Pattaya City. An inspection boat was dispatched to the location but failed to locate the body at that time.
Later, around 3.30pm yesterday, the body was spotted again, this time floating near Koh Klet Kaew, also known as Koh Ped, near the Royal Thai Naval Academy in Bang Saray. A nearby fishing boat had continued to monitor the body’s location until police were informed.
Initial investigations led to the transfer of the body to the Police General Hospital’s forensic institute for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. The police are currently uncertain whether the man was murdered, drowned, or accidentally fell overboard, reported KhaoSod.
Officials are coordinating with nearby police stations to check for any missing person reports that could provide clues to the man’s identity. Efforts are underway to locate relatives or acquaintances to aid in the investigation and pursue any legal proceedings necessary.
