Donald Trump is safe after a suspected second assassination attempt in less than two months.

A gunman opened fire with an AK-47 while the former president was playing golf at the Trump International Golf Course in West Palm Beach around 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Republican candidate was escorted to safety as Secret Service agents opened fire on the suspect, who was carrying a GoPro camera and a backpack along with his weapon.

The name of the possible killer is Ryan Wesley Routh and he is now in custody.

Donald Trump has issued a defiant statement after shots were fired at his golf course near West Palm Beach while he was there, vowing he would never surrender.

“There have been gunshots in my area, but before the rumors get out of hand, I want you to hear this first: I am safe and sound,” he wrote in an alert sent by his team on Sunday.

“Nothing will stop me. I will never surrender,” the candidate continued, months after surviving a separate attempt on his life in which he was shot in the ear.

Trump Assassination Task Force Monitors Latest Threat

As a second assassination attempt on Donald Trump unfolds, the task force investigating the assassination attempt is keeping a close eye on developments.

The Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump released a statement Sunday after a suspect was arrested for pointing a gun at the former president.

Republican Chairman Mike Kelly and Democratic member Jason Crow wrote:

The Task Force is monitoring this attempted assassination of former President Trump in West Palm Beach this afternoon. We have requested a briefing from the U.S. Secret Service on what happened and how security responded.

We are grateful that the former president was not injured, but we remain deeply concerned about political violence and condemn it in all its forms. The Task Force will share updates as we learn more.

New footage shows the backpack, GoPro camera and AK-47-style rifle a gunman left behind as he fled the scene of a crime he targeted Donald Trump.

Police held a news conference in West Palm Beach on Sunday after the FBI announced it is opening an investigation into a second attempted assassination of Donald Trump in just two months.

The former president was taken to safety on Sunday after multiple shots were fired in his area while he was playing golf at his club in West Palm Beach.

A suspected gunman has been arrested following the terrifying incident at the Trump International Club, almost exactly two months after another attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Multiple reports name the suspect as Ryan Wesley Routh.

According to officials, U.S. Secret Service agents saw a gun barrel sticking out of the bushes two holes away from where Trump was golfing Sunday and fired at the suspect.
