The latest tragedy follows that of 30-year-old West Australian craftsman Shane Ramsey, who was visiting the Indonesian island for a wedding and was riding a moped in Seminyak when he crashed into a roadside pole on Sunday, August 18.

He was not wearing a helmet and had no travel insurance.

Mr Ramsey was rushed to hospital, where he underwent brain surgery and fell into a coma.

His family paid $70,000 for him to undergo emergency neurological surgery and arranged a medical evacuation flight, which is believed to have cost around $150,000.

He was airlifted back to Perth but his family were in grief and later turned off his life support when it became clear he would not recover from the horrific head injuries he sustained in the crash.
