The Block viewers slam the show’s controversial cooking challenge as the teams compete to win a $120,000 boat: ‘This isn’t MasterChef’

Viewers of The Block were left confused on Wednesday night after the Channel Nine reality series aired a controversial cooking challenge.

Host Scott Cam, 61, gave the contestants a break from their building projects and set them a bizarre challenge: they had to cook a delicious fish meal for him and co-host Shelley Craft.

Cam kept the Blockheads on their toes by announcing that the winning team would win a $120,000 Bar Crusher fishing boat, which they could auction off along with their house.

“This is going to be a blind tasting. We have no idea who cooked what. We’ll come up with the meal we liked best and that team will take home the Bar Crusher,” Scott told them.

The teams then got to work preparing delicious dishes for the hosts, with their friends Ricky and Haydn from Melbourne winning with their delicious fish and chips.

“Well done guys, it was lovely,” Shelley said to her best friends as she handed them the keys to their luxurious new boat.

However, the unconventional element was met with displeasure from many viewers, who criticized the show on social media for not fitting into the program’s format.

‘This is my first year ever watching The Block. Why are they cooking? What is this, MasterChef? I’m confused,’ someone snapped.

“I just watched… OMG, now The Block is like My Kitchen Rules,” added a second user, while a third added: “Why am I even watching people fish and cook?”

“I thought this was a renovation show and not a cooking competition,” wrote another outraged fan.

The Block is a lifestyle reality show that often features funny and unconventional elements, such as last year’s shocking breakdance challenge.

This came after contestant Ricky Recard had to respond to accusations from his abandoned ex-girlfriend Lauren Smith that he was a ‘love rat’.

The controversial reality star made headlines this week after it was revealed that he dumped Lauren just before a dream trip abroad to pursue a relationship with married makeup artist Erin Lee, whom he met while filming the reality show.

Ricky said on Tuesday’s Fifi, Fev & Nick that he was shocked that Lauren would air the former couple’s dirty laundry in public.

The curious admission came after presenter Brendan Fevola broached the sensitive subject, with Ricky saying it was “a bit harsh” to be called a “love rat”.
