This is the terrifying moment a skydiver fell from the top of a hot air balloon before he could land safely on a farm in southeastern Brazil.
Colombian Jhovanny Duran can be seen standing on the balloon, taking five steps and trying to slide off when he suddenly fell through the canvas.
The 31-year-old father-of-one fell about 20 meters into the balloon, landed in the basket and made contact with the flare before being ejected.
However, he was able to keep his composure and opened the parachute before landing on a farm, where a resident helped him.
Duran was rushed to an area hospital, where he underwent surgery for a broken left leg. He also suffered burns to his legs, chin, cheek and nose.
Colombian Jhovanny Duran suffered a broken femur and multiple burns on his face on June 1 after slipping through a hot air balloon while trying to skydive from it in Boituva, a city in the southeastern Brazilian state of São Paulo.
Jhovanny Duran said he had seen other people skydiving from hot air balloons through videos on the Internet and that he and the other six people who joined him had no experience with that type of jump.
The incident took place on June 1 in the city of Boituva in São Paulo and Duran has been recovering at home since then.
In an interview with Brazilian news magazine Fantástico that aired Sunday, Duran said that none of the six other divers with him on the mission had ever jumped from a hot air balloon, but that he had seen other people do it on the Internet.
“There was no other athlete, no other experienced person, who could give us the safety information that we had to climb or what we had to do to walk on top of the balloon, to jump, to get out,” he said.
The balloon’s owner, Duran indicated, gave the group some instructions on how to proceed with the “risky jump.”
While standing on top of the balloon, he discovered that the balloon was not stable enough, as he followed the owner’s instructions to step only on the thickest lines of the canvas.

“He (the owner) said, if you step on it, you will feel there is more pressure on it. If the pressure is on, it’s the right one,” Duran said. “When I took one, two, three steps and threw myself into the slip, I felt like I was sinking.”
Duran has lived in Brazil for ten years and celebrated his birthday over the weekend.
Jair Grillo, who piloted the balloon, told the news station that all seven paratroopers received his instructions, which he said Duran did not follow.
“Unfortunately, the athlete in question ended up making this jump that did not support his weight. OK? But yeah, it’s a joke for the athlete before he goes,” he said.
‘It’s explained more than once. To allow them to come out, it is on top of the backing tape,” he added.
“And in the video itself you can see that he ended up not running on top of the tape, but running into the middle of the fabric and throwing himself.”
