Suni Lee clinches another Olympic medal as Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes make rare public appearance to watch USA gymnast take bronze in uneven bars

Suni Lee added another medal to her collection on Sunday when she took home bronze in the women’s uneven bars final.

This brings her total medal count at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris to three, after she won gold in the team all-around and another bronze in the individual all-around.

Kaylia Nemour of Algeria gave the country its first gold medal in gymnastics, while Qiu Qiyuan of China won silver.

In the audience, Lee was supported by Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, who made a rare public appearance to cheer her on.

The couple looked casual, with the Barbie actor wearing an Olympics baseball cap, while the Ghost Rider star wore dark sunglasses.

Her teammates, including superstar Simone Biles, were also on hand to cheer her on as she won the same medal she won at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on the uneven bars.

The athlete recently reflected on her journey to the Games after being diagnosed with two rare kidney diseases that prevented her from competing and severely impacted her physical and mental health.

“From being told I would never be able to do gymnastics again to winning my fifth Olympic medal!” Lee wrote on Instagram on Friday.

It is Lee's third medal in Paris and the sixth of her impressive Olympic career.

“This medal goes beyond gymnastics,” she added.

“I can’t even begin to describe how much my health has taken from me and how much strength it has given me. To be here is the greatest accomplishment of all. Grateful for the opportunity to represent the U.S. team at my second Olympics! Thank you for all the support.”

As impressive as her performances have been over the past week, they are all the more impressive given that just a year ago she was “rotting in bed.”

“We didn’t even think I would be here,” she told reporters after the Olympic qualifiers.

“Everything came at me like a crazy rollercoaster. I haven’t stopped crying since then and I’m so happy because I’ve thought about quitting and quitting this sport many times because I didn’t think I would ever get to this point,” she continued.
