Stephen Nedoroscik – aka ‘Pommel Horse guy’ – announced as first celebrity on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ after viral Olympic success

USA gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik, who became known as the ‘horse man’ after his skills on the apparatus led the US team to a team bronze medal, has been announced as the first celebrity contestant on Season 33 of ‘Dancing with the Stars.’

Nedoroscik, 25, became a star at the Paris Olympics, where he helped the U.S. men win their first team medal in gymnastics in 16 years as a specialist, eventually winning a bronze medal on the apparatus.

And now he’s going to try his luck in the dance world, as ABC announced on Thursday’s “Good Morning America” that he’s joining “DWTS” as the first male gymnast to compete on the show.

Host Robin Roberts asked Nedoroscik if he would use his gymnastics moves on the dance floor.

“I hope to bring a few. I want to bring some flares, I want to bring some of that gymnastics. Maybe a backflip or a handstand. I want to have fun with it,” he said.

Nedoroscik added that his immediate answer was yes when he was approached to do the show, and that he was “really excited” to get started.

The bespectacled gymnast, who has been compared to Clark Kent by some, was also asked if he would wear his glasses while competing on DWTS.

“I could have fun with them. I’m afraid they’ll fly off, that’s the thing,” he said. “Maybe we could make a gadget, keep them on, maybe a new pair of glasses, to fit the theme.”

The remaining participants will be announced later.
