Step inside the spectacular Queensland hideaway named one of the BEST beach houses in the world – as the architect spills the property’s secrets

A stunning beach house, carved into a cliff on the Southern Great Barrier Reef, overlooking the sparkling waters of Honeymoon Bay, has captured the attention of thousands of people around the world.

The estate, affectionately known as Alinghi, spans 5 hectares and has been expertly designed by renowned Australian architect James Grose.

Alinghi is one of the most famous homes in Australia and was voted one of the top five beach houses in the world by Forbes Global Properties for its unique location and design.

This area is home to a variety of native animals, including wallabies, echidnas, monitor lizards, turtles and migratory whales.

Mr Grose designed the property to reflect and ‘blend’ into its natural surroundings.

Alinghi disappears into the cliff face through the gray tones and silver tree bark that surround the terrain.

“The house responds to the Australian bush that surrounds it. It takes its inspiration from the natural environment,” Mr Grose told FEMAIL.

Built with local cedar, glass and travertine, the house consists of two pavilions connected by a concrete-covered walkway.

The smaller pavilion consists of a master bedroom and private study with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning ocean views, surrounded by landscaped native gardens.

“What’s important about a building is not what people say about it. It’s how a building makes people feel,” Grose said.

Alinghi is a 90-minute drive from Agnes Waters and its sister town 1770 (Seventeen Seventy).

The city is a five-hour drive from the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

This coastal spot is ideal for a beach getaway. The city’s population has grown from 2,200 to 6,300 since 2016. Out-of-state tourists love the spectacular scenery and laid-back community.

One of Agnes Waters’ most popular attractions is the Paperback Forest Boardwalk, where visitors can walk along a winding path of stepping stones through a tranquil wetland of towering trees.
