In 2020, Stella spoke candidly about her sexuality in an interview with Advocate magazine, explaining that she prefers to identify as LGBTQIA (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and allied).
She explained: ‘I think LGBTQIA is all-encompassing. I did get some backlash on social media for the A, which of course can mean asexual or allied.
“Someone said, ‘Allied — are you kidding me?’ And you know what? I’m not kidding. I have so many straight friends who are important allies to the LGBTQIA community.”
Speaking about what attracts her in a partner, she continued: ‘I don’t know if I have a type. I just go with what I feel.
“I definitely don’t fall in love easily. I would say most of the people I date are my friends. I like to spend time with people that I’m attracted to, first of all, and that I enjoy spending time with.”
Stella previously dated actress Kristen Stewart, but the couple split in 2019 after an on-again, off-again relationship.
They started dating in January 2017 and moved in together just five months later.
The duo reportedly split in November 2018, with a source claiming: “They were no longer seeing eye to eye and were living completely different lives.”
They briefly reconciled the following year, but the reunion was short-lived.
Stella studied at the University of Otago, where her modelling talent was first discovered.
She walked the runway at the 2014 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and was officially named a Victoria’s Secret Angel the following year.
