South Perth stabbing: Man is left fighting for life after meeting with two people descends into chaos on highway

A man is fighting for his life after being allegedly stabbed on a busy highway.

The 35-year-old was found with multiple cuts on the Canning Highway in South Perth at around 2.40pm on Wednesday.

A Western Australia Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia it is alleged two men arranged to meet the 35-year-old.

“It is alleged that at around 2.30pm the suspect was walking along the Canning Highway armed with a knife and in the company of another man,” he said.

‘An altercation ensued between the three men, during which the 35-year-old victim was stabbed several times. The other two men fled on foot.’

Police and ambulances rushed to the gruesome scene and then closed off surrounding roads.

The man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area while the manhunt for the two men was underway.

Detectives surrounded the nearby Como Bowling and Recreation Club, where a vigil was being held, before finding and arresting a man in the toilets.

The Western Australia Police spokesman said the 18-year-old man was initially arrested and then released without charge.

A witness at the vigil said the teenager looked “shocked.”

“Suddenly we saw the police quietly coming in and going to the bathroom… we were wondering what was going on,” she told the Western Australian.

“He was walking around looking quite bewildered, honestly, in his own world. Maybe even a little bit shocked.”

The search for the second man continued, with police and forensic teams at the scene collecting evidence.

“Further investigation led Cannington detectives to a home in High Wycombe where a 20-year-old man was arrested,” the Western Australia Police spokesman said.

‘Detectives searched the home and found the knife believed to have been used in the South Perth brawl.’

The man was charged with causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an object with intent to injure (cause disability).

The man is due to appear in Perth District Court on July 18.

The wall outside the house was smeared with blood and clothes and a hammer lay along the sidewalk.

An object that appeared to be a sharp object was found in factories across the highway.

Barber Paul O’Sullivan, who works nearby, said ABC Radio Perth He had left the salon when he heard a disturbance.

“There was a man on the sidewalk across the street lying on the ground, and there were a couple of cars pulled over to him,” he said.

“There was blood everywhere. It was quite confronting.”

According to Mr Sullivan, two people saw him and ran into a side street before the barber found the injured man.

There was a big tomahawk axe, like [a] “There’s a pickaxe on the sidewalk next to him,” he said.
