Shock poll reveals who Americans think is more trustworthy on the economy between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris

  • VP Harris has improved voter confidence in Democratic handling of economy

Americans trust Kamala Harris much more than Joe Biden when it comes to the most important issue in the 2024 election, a new poll finds.

Democrats see a huge increase in registered voters taking charge of the economy after Harris takes over the 2024 presidential campaign.

And now the vice president has even surpassed former President Donald Trump in this area, according to a Financial Times/University of Michigan Ross School of Business Survey released on Sunday.

Trump’s position on economic issues remained unchanged from July to August, with 41 percent approving of his approach.

Meanwhile, Harris holds a 1-point lead, well within the 3.1 percent margin of error from the Aug. 1-5 poll.

But Harris’ 42 percent approval rating among 1,001 registered voters is a whopping 7 percentage point jump from Biden’s results last month, when he was at just 35 percent.

Since February, Biden has been polling between 31 and 37 percent of the vote among those who trust him to manage the U.S. economy despite rising inflation and near-recession conditions.

Meanwhile, Trump has remained above 40 percent over the same period.

Half of those surveyed said the economy has deteriorated since Biden became president in 2021, and a whopping 73 percent of voters say they view the U.S. economic situation negatively.

But Biden’s departure and Harris’ entry into the race have upended Americans’ ideas about who is best suited to tackle economic problems.

Americans consistently say the economy is the biggest factor influencing their vote in November.

Erik Gordon, a professor at the University of Michigan, said of the results: “The fact that voters were more positive about Harris than Biden … says as much about how poorly Biden is doing as it does about how well Harris is doing.”

Trump and his surrogates claim that Harris is going through a “honeymoon phase” after entering the race last month, which they say will soon fade.

Enthusiasm among Democrats soared after Harris took over the campaign from her 81-year-old boss.

But Republicans say it’s still not enough to defeat Trump in November.
