- Sam Kerr has signed a contract extension with Chelsea
- The 30-year-old’s contract expired this summer
- Good news comes after legal troubles for the superstar
Sam Kerr has signed a contract extension with Chelsea, keeping the Matildas superstar in west London until at least 2026.
Kerr’s future at the Blues has been clouded by uncertainty, with her previous contract expiring this summer, while injuries and off-field drama have served as an unwanted distraction this season.
The 30-year-old has pleaded not guilty to a charge of racially abusing a police officer following an alleged incident in Twickenham, South West London on January 30, 2023.
In January this year, reports circulated that Kerr had agreed a new deal with Chelsea, but there was no official confirmation, further fueling speculation about her future.
However, the club has always backed the Matildas captain, with former coach Emma Hayes launching a fervent defense of Kerr’s character in the immediate aftermath of the Twickenham bomb.

The Matildas superstar has had a difficult year, including injuries and off-field issues, after being accused of a racist offense dating back to January 2023.
And Chelsea have officially confirmed Kerr’s stay at the club, with the English giants renaming their iconic Stamford Bridge ground ‘Samford Bridge’ as part of their big announcement on Thursday.
In honor of the big occasion they also temporarily renamed their training ground in Cobham from Kingsmeadow to ‘Kerrsmeadow’.
The Matildas captain has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury in January, which denied her the chance to play as Chelsea won the Women’s Super League title for the fifth year in a row.
Her torn anterior cruciate ligament crushed her dream of representing Australia at the Paris Olympics in July, while her omission from the team was officially confirmed in May.
In the meantime, Kerr is enjoying a summer break away from the field.
She headed to Mexico for a luxury vacation with her fiancé and fellow soccer player Kristie Mewis and spent time at a top resort in Los Cabos.
The Viceroy hotel offers incredible views of the Sea of Cortez, five picturesque pools, ultra-modern rooms with water views, a rooftop bar and several gourmet dining options.
But Thursday’s news means she will remain in London with her fiancé Kristie Mewis

Last month, Kerr and Mewis treated their social media followers to a glimpse of their stylish holiday, showing them getting dressed to the nines for a meal, hanging out in their room, pony riding and even watching an artist perform who dances with fire while her hair is twirled.
A clip from Mewis’ TikTok shows her dancing while applying makeup before heading out, as Kerr enters the room and shows off the engagement ring she publicly debuted in April.
Kerr repeatedly captioned photos of the hotel with the words “in paradise” as she posted photos of her fiancé taking in the surroundings.
