Greenfinch

She will clearly have to improve to win this one – Guineas seventh Cinderella’s Dream won the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks in style last time out – but she comes here on the back of a career best after winning a Listed race at Killarney in very good style, so let’s see what she can do up the grade. She has a Grade 1 pedigree and hopefully she can step up again in this Grade 2.

Diego Velazquez

This looks like a good chance for him. He was a good 2-year-old but he clearly set a career best when he jumped up for me, stepped back in distance, over 1m1f at Leopardstown last month. If he can repeat that form here he has every chance.

Galway Friday

5.00 – Lord Erskine

I’m riding Lord Erskine in the opening race on Friday, the Galway Tribes Handicap Hurdle.

He is now 11 years old, but on Monday he proved again that he is still enthusiastic about racing when he persevered to finish fourth in the amateur riders’ Connacht Hotel Handicap. That was a really good run.

He won a big two-mile handicap hurdle at Leopardstown in February at the Dublin Racing Festival on a mark of 120. He is 7lb higher in the handicap here but he should be up to the task. He rarely runs a bad race and I look forward to riding him again.
