A school was locked down for an hour on Thursday after a “serious incident” in North Queensland.
Students from Ryan Catholic College were forced to remain in classrooms when the incident unfolded on Canterbury Road in Kirwan, Townsville, around 12pm.
There are 1,800 children enrolled in the school, from nursery school through twelfth grade.
The incident occurred after two suspicious persons were spotted in the area.
“A serious incident has occurred, which has caused the school to go into lockdown,” the school board said.
‘The staff acted quickly and calmly and all students are safe.
‘The police are on site to resolve the issue. Further contact will be made once the lockdown is lifted.’
An hour later, the lockdown was lifted by the teachers.
