The father of Australian politician Chris Bowen has died.

Mr Bowen, the Minister for Climate Change and Energy, spoke about the death of his father, Ross Bowen, on Wednesday morning.

“My mother lost her husband and her faithful companion of 53 years,” Mr Bowen said.

‘Dad was a quiet man, but the hardest worker I ever met and a fighter for what he believed in.

“He went to work every night at 11 p.m. and worked all night to take care of my brother and me.

‘He never met anyone he didn’t want to help or support.

‘I will miss his jokes and favorite sayings. His favorite is: “It’s time for a beer sandwich, but I don’t need the bread.”

Ross previously worked from midnight to dawn at the NRMA, where he was responsible for dispatching roadside assistance.

“I’m so sorry Chris. He was a good man. I send our love and deepest condolences to you and your family,” said Labor MP Ben Reid.

“I’m so sorry to hear this sad news today. Your father was a steadfast, loving and devoted father and husband. I feel so fortunate to have known him and worked with him for our local community,” wrote Senator Deborah O’Neill.

‘My sincere condolences to you and your family, especially your dear mother.’

Mr Bowen has two children Grace and Max with his wife Rebecca.

More to come.
