The two clubs that previously activated Ruben Amorim’s release clause have been revealed.
Following the departure of Erik ten Hag, United have appointed Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim.
Amorim will become head coach of United on November 11, subject to work visa requirements.
Other major clubs have previously attempted to secure the 39-year-old’s services.
Amorim, who previously managed Braga, was highly sought after after building a reputation as one of Europe’s standout young coaches.
The two clubs that activated Ruben Amorim’s release clause have been revealed
As reported by A BolaWest Ham and Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr previously activated Amorim’s release clause.
Liverpool had identified Amorim as a potential candidate to replace Jurgen Klopp but had no intention of paying the release clause and ultimately appointed Arne Slot.
West Ham then tried to appoint Amorim but were unable to convince him to take charge of them. The Hammers appointed Julen Lopetegui as David Moyes’ successor in May.
In September, Al-Nassr, who include Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad, were willing to pay Amorim’s release clause and offer him a contract worth almost twenty million euros per year.
However, Amorim turned down the offer, with Al-Nassr appointing former Milan boss Stefano Pioli instead.
Amorim’s first game as United boss will take place in Ipswich on November 24.
Ahead of the official announcement of his appointment by United, Amorim outlined his reasons for wanting to take a step forward in his career.
He said: ‘I think in everyone’s life, including yours, there are phases where we do very well in life, but then we want to prove something more, maybe something more.
