Real Madrid reportedly have two alternative right-backs on their shortlist if they fail to sign Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success in recent years and has remained a key player for the Reds since Arne Slot replaced Jurgen Klopp in second place.

However, questions surrounding his future at his boyhood club have only increased in recent months.

Like teammates Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold’s current contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

With Dani Carvajal sidelined long-term, the England international is Real Madrid’s No. 1 target at the right-back position and the move appeals to him, as reported by IF.

There is said to be pessimism at Anfield over the defender’s future beyond this season.

However, should Alexander-Arnold commit his longer-term future to Liverpool, the Spanish giants could opt for Tottenham’s Pedro Porro as an alternative.

Porro has impressed in the Premier League since moving to North London in 2023, scoring twice for Spain in the last international break

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremy Frimpong, who impressed under Xabi Alonso, is also on Real’s shortlist.

Alexander-Arnold’s contract at Liverpool expires in June 2025, meaning he would be free in January to begin negotiations with clubs in Europe over a possible free transfer next summer.

However, Reds boss Arne Slot insisted a fortnight ago that Real’s interest will not upset Alexander-Arnold.

“I think you underestimate our players,” Slot said. ‘These players are used to being linked to all the top clubs on a daily basis, whether they have a contract or not.

‘If you think that these interests bother them, then I don’t think you do justice to how strong they are mentally and what they are used to. This is part of our job. I was at Feyenoord last year and they linked me with a lot of clubs, and before that and before that. This is part of the world we live in.

“You just focus on what you have to do. If you’re 17 or 18 years old, that might be difficult for you. But Trent has won the Premier League, he has won the Champions League; Virgil and Mo the same. I don’t think it’s a problem for them to perform.

‘We see that now, because they are playing very well, so to speak.’
