Raygun does another breaking routine as Aussie Olympic stars treat her like a cult hero at the closing ceremony

  • Olympic cult hero has gone viral
  • She seemed in good spirits despite her disappointment

Raygun and her Australian teammates have resurfaced ahead of the Olympic Games closing ceremony.

The Australian breakdancer, a 36-year-old married university lecturer named Rachael Gunn, has kept a low profile after her disastrous performance at the inaugural women’s competition put her in the news for all the wrong reasons.

But she was present at the closing ceremony on Sunday alongside her fellow Australian Olympians, with video footage showing her performing her iconic moves to loud applause from her countrymen.

She was also lifted onto the shoulders of a teammate and imitated her infamous kangaroo dance, sending fans around the world into hysterics.

A number of high-profile figures came to Gunn’s defense following her performance, including Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who praised her for putting her best foot forward during the routine.

“Raygun made a good move, well done and a big compliment to her,” he told reporters in Adelaide on Sunday.

“That’s in the Australian tradition of people trying. She’s tried to represent our country, and that’s a good thing.

“Whether they won gold medals or just did their best, that’s all we asked. It’s the participation that really matters.”

More to come.
