WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden toasted the unveiling of a long-awaited, redesigned public White House tour on Sunday.

The couple held a dinner in honor of the first lady’s update on the public White House tour. The updates will be revealed on Monday.

“We are inspiring future generations to write the next chapter” of the White House’s history, President Biden said in an address to guests, calling himself and the first lady “temporary tenants” of “the People’s House.” The president’s term ends in just a few months after he decided to end his bid for a second term in July.

Jill Biden, who led the White House tour renewal, said that “tonight marks the end of some of our work, but is just the beginning of this new chapter of public White House tours.”

“It has been the honor of my life to serve as your first lady.”

The updates come in the middle of Washington DC’s so-called shoulder season – the period between the region’s peak tourism season and the off-season – as well as the upcoming presidential election as the White House prepares for a change of administration.

Over the past year, a new attraction has emerged that aims to give tourists a glimpse into the White House.

A new tourist stop that offers visitors a replica of President Joe Biden ‘s Oval Office opened in September at The People’s House: A White House Experience. Few people have ever set foot in the Oval Office. It is not on the public White House tour route.

Tours of the White House are free and can be requested through the White House or a member of Congress.
