Pickpocketing Mongolian tourists arrested in Bangkok

Bangkok police apprehended two Mongolian nationals in connection with a series of tourist-targeted thefts in the Sukhumvit area of the capital.

The arrests occurred at 1am today, November 11, when Thonglo police officers caught 35 year old Sodbayar, and 40 year old Uyangabaatar along Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok.

The investigation began after a female tourist reported her wallet stolen outside a restaurant in Sukhumvit Soi 33/1 on Friday, November 8. CCTV footage revealed three suspects working together, leading to the arrest of two when they returned to the area attempting another theft.

Police discovered the suspects, who entered Thailand on tourist visas, had been regularly moving between accommodations in the Phra Khanong and Bang Chak areas, changing locations every week to avoid detection while targeting new victims.

Both men have confessed to the recent theft and face charges of nighttime theft, which carries a sentence of one to seven years behind bars and fines ranging from 20,000 to 140,000 baht. They will also be required to pay restitution to their victims.

Police continue to search for the third suspect, who remains at large, reported KhaoSod English.

In similar news, thieves broke into a school in Ban Muang, Ban Dung, Udon Thani, causing alarm among staff. A 32 year old teacher, reported the incident to both social media and at Dong Yen Police Station after the headteacher failed to take action, fearing the criminals might strike again.

The headteacher summoned the teachers for a meeting to discuss the event. During this meeting, the headteacher reprimanded the teacher, referred to as Teacher A, for posting a video of the break-in on social media and threatened disciplinary action.

In other news, In a remarkable display of community spirit and quick thinking, a group of local teens turned heroes yesterday as they apprehended a suspected motorcycle thief in the bustling streets of Bang Lamung.

The drama unfolded at 2pm, yesterday, November 10, right in front of a mobile phone repair shop near Wat Boon Samphan, drawing quite a crowd.
