Pat McAfee couldn’t believe how poorly a South Carolina student performed in a College GameDay kicking contest. He was met with a devastating five-word response over and over again.
Gamecocks sophomore business student Joshua Watson was selected to make the 33-yard attempt, which would earn him $120,000 if he split the three posts.
Also at stake was $60,000 for the Jake Panus Walk-On Football Endowed Scholarship, which provides free college tuition to several South Carolina football players who do not have scholarships.
Watson talked a lot of nonsense before the attempt, including guaranteeing that the ball would be kicked successfully and saying that kicking a football is “so easy” and “not a sport,” despite never having tried it before.
Watson’s attempt flew several feet along the ground before hitting a nearby guard, his boot flying through the air well out of frame. McAfee’s verdict was swift and brutal: “The worst kick ever!”

McAfee also repeated the phrase “that guy sucks” several times while looking straight at Watson.
Watson immediately felt embarrassed, knowing his colossal failure had been broadcast on national television and would likely become the standard for what not to do on College GameDay.
ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit predicted before the attempt how bad the kick would be, saying Watson “had no chance” because he was so arrogant going into the attempt.
The charity amount donated for the kick was increased from $45,000 to $60,000 by famed South Carolina country singer and fan Darius Rucker, who joined Herbstreit and McAfee in the effort.
After the kick, McAfee wanted to make sure the image of his kick wouldn’t be the horrific shot that stuck with him the most.
“We’re going to keep donating, this kid is worthless,” McAfee said before the cameras turned back to the other panelists.
