Paris Olympics: Australia wins silver in men’s canoe sprint in nail-biting finish

Australia has won a silver medal at the Olympic Games in a thrilling final in the men’s 500m K4, defeated by sprint kayak champions Germany.

In a thrilling final sprint, the team of Riley Fitzsimmons, Jackson Collins, Pierre van der Westhuyzen and Noah Havard finished second in a photo finish, with Spain in third.

Germany claimed the title in this event for the third time in a row, winning the race by 0.04 seconds ahead of Australia. The Spanish were 0.21 seconds behind the participants with the green and gold medals.

Earlier, the Australian K4 women consisting of Ella Beere, Aly Bull, Alexandra Clarke and Yale Steinepreis were last in their final. This was won by New Zealand, with veteran Lisa Carrington winning her sixth gold medal from the nine Olympic medals.

This happened after Australian Moesha Johnson won silver in the marathon swimming competition in the River Seine.
